It's no surprise that many college students drink, especially those attending a flagship university with a storied sports program. Reporters Karin Fischer and Eric Hoover of The Chronicle of Higher Education explored the niceties of a mass drinking culture at the University of Georgia in an extraordinary article, "A River of Booze."
They joined EWA Radio for a compelling conversation about their story, detailing what surprised them most about what they saw, including students so drunk from a previous night of drinking that they were charged with DUIs while driving to class the next morning.
Still, they cautioned that the stories of decadence shouldn't overshadow the many more students who drink in moderation, nor the steps taken by police and administration officials in dealing sensitively with an issue that affects thousands of vulnerable college learners.
