"Solutions Journalism" aims to draw attention to credible responses to social problems. A brand-new resource can help education reporters take that approach with their own work on the beat.

Keith Hammonds, chief operating officer of the nonprofit Solutions Journalism Network, and Jackie Mader, Mississippi bureau chief for The Hechinger Report, are two of the lead authors on The Education Reporter's Toolkit, a how-to guide to implementing a solutions journalism approach to the daily work of the beat.

Hammonds and Mader spoke with EWA Radio about the impetus for the new guide, some key topics that are particularly ripe for this kind of coverage, and smart ways to weigh education research.
